“Go to your room, (name).”

“But-”

“And don’t come out till I tell you to.” Your Guardian pushed you into your room in a hurry, shutting the door before you could get to it. Just as you touched the brass door knob, you could hear something heavy being moved. You guessed it was probably a dresser or something similar that your Guardian used to block the door to ensure you wouldn’t get out. You tried the door a few times but it hardly budged. Sinking to the floor in defeat, you felt somewhat worried for your Guardian, judging by the tone of their voice. You’ve never heard them sound this alarmed before. Could it be a murderer? You entertained the thought of a crazed person coming into the house brandishing a weapon and attempting to mortally wound your Guardian. They were pretty skilled in combat with their, as they put it, strife specibus or even without it. You were confident of them, but you couldn’t help but worry anyway. You wished you could help but-

The window! A breeze rolled in your room through the open window by the desk, knocking over an empty can of your favoured beverage. You grabbed your own strife specibus which leaned by your nightstand. Rushing over to the window, you began to formulate a plan which consisted of jumping down to the roof below then slipping down the drainage pipe. You stopped for a moment, hands gripping the windowsill. Wouldn’t my landing be noisy? The noise your shoes would make landing against the roof would alert the murderer of your location so that wouldn't be such a good idea. You took a moment to reconsider your plan, when you could hear some particularly voices out on the lawn below.

“Got a lot of nerve showing your face here, Ampora.”

AMPORA?! You strained your eyes to see if it really was him- well, whichever Ampora it was, as there were three of them. Dualscar Ampora was the owner some kind of commercial fishing company and also took care of his son, Eridan and his nephew Cronus. You heard there was another Ampora- Cronus’ dad, but you've never seen him before.

Come to think of it, you’re not really sure why Cronus, Dualscar or even that other Ampora would come to your house which narrows it down to Eridan.

Ah yes, Eridan. Initially friends with the glasses wearing troll, your friendship has become somewhat of an awkward place for you. Awkward as you began to feel like you really care for him and his presence is enough to send you feeling that strange sensation in your stomach. Could it be… love? You’re not so sure- in fact, you’re trying to downplay it the best you can (even though your other friends say your stares have lingered on his form for longer than necessary) since you’re not quite sure what to do with it- assuming it is love. His appearance at your home took you by surprise. What could he be doing here? He’s certainly not here to pester you about History homework- you finished that yesterday- nor did you invite him to play some video games with you. You stood to the side of your window to obscure your presence but still see what was happening on the lawn. Your Guardian twirled their strife specibus in their hand, eyeing the youngest Ampora warily.

“Are you sure you want to do this?”

“Is there any other reason wwhy I'm here? Of course I’m wwillin’ to go fuckin’ through wwith it!”

“Oh I don’t know. Maybe you needed to use the toilet while you were in the neighbourhood?”

“Just get on wwith it already, for fuck’s sake.” Eridan ran a hand down his face, groaning at your Guardian’s dry humour. Personally, you found it funny at times, even now you were trying to stifle a giggle. “Fine, fine.” Your Guardian discarded their strife specibus off to the side and pulled out a short and finely crafted dark piece of wood. Eridan followed suit and pulled out something similar to them, except his was painted white.

“For your sake, Ampora Junior-”

“Don’t fuckin’ call me that.”

“Whatever, Junior. For your sake I’m willing to use the same weapon as you.” Your Guardian twirled the wood around their finger before resuming to speak. “Normally I would use my normal weapon, but since I’m feeling particularly generous today, I’ll give myself a bit of a handicap.”
“Do you evven havve any idea howw to use that? Be prepared for a smackdown, (Guardian).” The troll scoffed. You looked on at their little exchange.
What were they doing…?

“On the contrary!” Your Guardian launched a bright stream of yellow light towards the troll, which he quickly dodged. “This was my first strife specibus!” For a moment, you could have sworn Eridan looked absolutely surprised before he had to duck down and roll away. A small patch of the troll’s scarf was a bit singed in his escape, warranting a snarl from the glasses wearing troll. Beams of light which came from either person lit the dark garden in subsequent flashes. With each flash, you notice some of the flower bushes gained holes. It was a wonder none of them actually caught fire.

At first, you were amazed by the brilliant flashes of light that came from what you now realised were wands. Then you began to understand the seriousness of the situation. They were going to try and kill each other. Whatever their reasons they had for starting this fight, you were not going to let it end in bloodshed. You jumped down to the roof- nevermind the noise, they didn’t seem to mind it anyway- then slid down the drain pipe. Your hands stung from the friction of sliding down the pipe but you had to run.

“Gotcha!” Your Guardian exclaimed.

Everything seemed to go in slow motion as you watched them mouth an incantation, causing the end of their wand to glow with light. Eridan’s face contorted into fear and you wish-

You wish you at least told him how you felt.

You heard Eridan yell out something you couldn't quite decipher before getting knocked back and getting blinded by a light.

The light died down gradually and you could see once again. Your rubbed your eyes, once, twice, to get a better view of what had just happened.

What you expected was Eridan, lying in a pool of his own violet blood. You expected to see the object of your unspoken feelings passing away, with each drop of blood seeping out of him quickly counting down his days to zero.

You had expected to cry, to be so distraught and heartbroken over a fight that you didn’t even know the cause.

Not this-

Not Eridan dusting himself off while your Guardian was on the ground rubbing their head. You ran to your Guardian, seeing as they were the one who seemed to be hurt the most. You helped them up, making sure your movements were gentle as they could have broken a bone or two. They assured you they were not hurt in any way but their groans told you otherwise.

“Wwell, (Guardian) looks like I wwin.” The troll smirked at them. Your Guardian nodded in reply silently, probably more pre-occupied by the pain in their body than the troll’s victory. Eridan seems to be happy enough as he began to saunter over to you two. You were just relieved to know that Eridan and your Guardian were both alive. You opened your mouth to scold both of them when your Guardian lifted a finger to silence you.

“Congratulations, Junior, but it all depends if your prize is willing.” Your Guardian turned to look at you, smiling as they did, and then you realised,

You are the prize.

“Hey! I- I didn’t agree to this! What the hell is this for? Eridan?” Your gaze switched from your Guardian’s face then to Eridan’s. They just looked like the cat who swallowed the canary while Eridan seemed a bit guilty. You cocked your head to the side, demanding an answer from either of them- especially Eridan.

“Wwell,”

“Oh man, this is going to be so good.”

“Shut up, (Guardian!)” You angrily muttered aside to them, urging them to keep quiet.

“(Guardian) said that if I managed to best them in fight then I get their permission to ask you out on a date.”

At the mention of a date, your Guardian just couldn’t control themselves and began to laugh uncontrollably. Eridan just looked downright uncomfortable, probably worried that you will turn him down.

And you?

You went from mouthing ‘yes’ to basically screaming it in his ear and hugging him as he tries to keep both of you upright.

What a night.

Even with dating permissions, your Guardian still continues to threaten to personally castrate Eridan if he ever hurts you.
